Topic: General Discussion / The Science of Vision Quest - Problem

Good point, Viki, you are right.

On a different point, I found a good article on “How Sci-Fi_ DOESN’T work at HowStuffWorks.com . the link to the article is http://science.howstuffworks.com/sci-fi.htm

It mainly talks about movie special effects and how vehicles/ships could actually move and maneuver in space, and many other Sci-Fi movie staples that are less than accurate. It takes nothing away from the enjoyment and love of great Sci-Fi, it just talks about what things would look like when we actually get to the “Star Wars” stage of technology. Very good article!

I would really like some more icons to chose from for my character. Is there a way to up load our own self-created- icons, or could that be incorporated into the site somday?

Topic: Site Feedback / The Sangelino Gnorb

I’m down to 2 questions that always come back incorrect. “Who was instrumental in getting lazer into Tosadae (Commander Devlin Hague – it always comes back incorrect no matter how I phrse it it) and “what was the device Cashton invented?” (can’t get that one at all). Are those 2 trick questions or what? I’ve read the book three times and used the search function in Adope Reader, nothing answers the question. Has ANYONE on this site got them correct? I have my doubts! Deborah Prat, time to clarify!

You know, I still can’t get either questiion myself. But nonbody seems to have the right answers or at least admits they can’t get it either, so I don’t know. Kind of frustrating.

Did anybody else notice that, when Lazer ran out of the memorial party for his father after neeting Commander Devlin Hague, and he eventually fell off on his Zakki 5000, it mentions that the Zakki fell faster because it was heavier, and Lazer fell slower because he was lighter, I guess. We learned in science class that weight has nothing to do with how fast a thing falls. We even saw an old vid from one of the moon landing where the guy drops a hammer and a feather at the same time and they both hit the dirt at the same time.

Lazer would have had to push off and up to get falling slower and send the Zakki down faster, he wouldn’t have fallen slower just because he was lighter. I looked it up online, and it says the same thing.

What do you all think?

Topic: General Discussion / Hints and Helpful Suggestions for Those New at Vision Quest

Hi Drewster58,

I’m kinda new here, but I’ll tell you what I did. First, I read the book (totally awesome! Kinda like me and my friends but in the future) Then, I explored the website and clicked on every link I could find and read what was there. Then I answered as many question from the gnorb as I could. I had to reread the book and look stuff up for the gnorb questions. The I went back through the website, and collected all the stuff I could, that wasn’t there the first time I clicked through. I don’t know if there’s anything else we can do other than that. Good luck, but it looks like you’re doing weel. I saw your name on the top 10 questors list. Viki

No, I still haven’t been able to answer “what is the name of the device that Cashton invented?” or “What Politia Commander was instrumental in Lazer’s going to Tosadae?” I know the answer to the 2nd question, it’s Politia Commander Devlin Hague, but the gnorb will not accept any variations of that name. I think the website has a problem, because, unless it’s a trick question somehow, the book plainely states it was Hague who pulled the strings to get Lazer at Tosadae.

Topic: The Splicer Forum / Splicers Versus Manticore's Genetic Mutation Experiments on "Dark Angel" TV Show

My Feline and human DNA has given me great speed, intuition, a second-sense of present danger, and an ability to stand extremes of cold or heat, compared to my completely human friends. My human DNA has given my extended family the ability to not be “loners,” but to work together to help each other as humans sometimes will do. I wouldn’t change the way I am for anything short of The Universal God herself.

Topic: General Discussion / Viewing Questor Biographies/Profiles Question

Is there a way to view the complete profiles of other friends here on Vision Quest? I tried to read Ms. Pratt’s, but it only shows a limited number of characters/letters, then cuts off, with no obvious link to finish reading the rest. Anyone have the answer?

The Vision Quest – Book 1

Engaging science fiction in the best sense. Stories about people that are complex, exciting, and “real.” The setting, in a highly technological yet deeply spiritual future earth, is part of the story, but used to make the characters’ actions make sense in the context of their world. The coming of age plot elements of our heroes, and the struggles and pain they face is very moving and easy to relate to. A rich and detailed background tapestry engages the imagination, and is combined with a fast-paced action packed story line. Well written and irresistible. Thank you Ms. Pratt!

I have answered all the questions, but 3 of them keep returning incorrect. If some of you have answered all the questions correctly, I will assume I need to get the answer typed exactly correct and keep trying. Any helpful hints?

Topic: The Splicer Forum / Splicers Versus Manticore's Genetic Mutation Experiments on "Dark Angel" TV Show

Splicers Versus Manticore’s Genetic Experiments on “Dark Angel” TV Show. Starring Jessica Alba (43 episodes 200-2002. See imdb.com/title/tt0204993/ or go to IMBD . Com and search for Dark Angel aka “James Cameron’s ‘Dark Angel’”)

I currently watch reruns of “Dark Angel” on SciFi ch. 122 (on DISH) or SiTV ch. 159. They featured a dystopian future after a high-altitude nuclear pulse destroyed all electronic infrastructure in the US, with the escaped survivors of a secret company called Manticore (you should check your mythology reference on that one, very interesting)trying to survive in and around Seattle Washington USA.

They featured very cool make-up and special effects of the different types of genetically mixed people. The hero, Max (Jessica Alba) had a mixture of some cat DNA among other things that gave her greater strength, speed, and reaction time than “regular” humans. Other’s had more animal than human mixes and were similar to what some of the more exotic Splicers might look like.

Some of these altered humans looked very reptilian and were designed to survive in hot desert environments. Others had gills between their ribs and were designed to survive as a water species. Max’s friend Joshua was mostly human and dog DNA and the makeup looked very canine. Others appeared in various episodes.

If you could be spliced with DNA, what would you want to do? Kyla’s ability to fly would be very cool. Extended endurance and speed would come in handy. What mix would that be? Extrapolate from Vision Quest Book 1 and build yourself the “perfect” Splicer to you. I’ll start thinking about it and report back soon!

Topic: General Discussion / Hints and Helpful Suggestions for Those New at Vision Quest

Hello, Drewster58 here. I am spending part of this long Memorial Day weekend familiarizing myself with this website and the Vision Quest book (.pdf download).

Do any of you who have been here longer and experienced the site more have any hints or suggestions to get me started?

I loved the series “Quantum Leap,” and didn’t realize Deborah Pratt had this website and the new book. So far I like the first chapter, and my first few looks around this site. Where can I go from here? Lend me your wisdom.

Thank you.

Yeah, oxygen is a great anti-oxidant. I heard if you spray a half-eaten apple with pure oxygen it stops it going brown.

This book is made of the same stuff that life is made of- tragedy, comedy, adventure, frustration, and love. Deborah Pratt brings to life a plethora of unique and captivating characters that every reader can identify with. The Vision Quest world brings the reader in and never lets go. More importantly it brings up questions that every reader must face, is this the future we want?? With the fusion of technology and biology becoming an ever closer reality, the ethical questions raised in The Vision Quest force the reader to examine the scientific achievements of today with a more cautious eye. Deborah Pratt has written a book that can provide enjoyment and inspiration to people of all ages.

Topic: The Heroes / Lazer is HOT

I think Covax is an interesting character. Doing the wrong things, but for the right reasons, if that makes any sense! Interesting to see a bad guy that really ISN’T a bad guy; just a conflicted, confused person trying, in his own slightly twisted way, to make the world a better place.

I really enjoyed seeing Lazer’s emotional journey unfold throughout the book, and it was a very natural progression from the disillusioned, arrogant teenager to a passionate, driven being on the very edge of adulthood. I hope Lazer can channel all those emotions and put them to good use.

I’m personally a fan of Covax, feel quote sorry for him cause he really seems to think he’s doing the right thing, it’s just that he’s become a bit twisted with the world’s rejection of him.

I’d really like to read that Michael Chriton book, sounds like it provides some interesting prespectives.

It’s all pretty scary how the world is going to change so much over the next couple of decades, and with certain rogue countries not having any restrictions on genetic engineering, there’s no telling what impact it could have on our society!

I want to know more about what happened with the Splicer incident and Covax. Sounds like it would have been a pretty dark time.

Who ever the guy on the front of the book is – he’s is already my hero.

Kyla has the coolest powers – I love that she has buterfyl wings and that she can glow.

Cashton has got to have something up his sleeve -

Topic: General Discussion / Splicers, genes, laws and human rights

It is intersting that the world is already creating new life forms. Some legal, some illegal. I think the book poses an intersting question as to how we as humans will be able to interact with the new species we are creating. After reading THE VISION QUEST, I read the new Michael Chriton book NEXT. He deals with a lot of the same subjects but on a contemporay story line – genetic laws, creatures, rights and who owns you if big companies can make claims on your genes. I’m sure I remember reading real cases in the news he based his story lines on.

I think what I like best about the Vision Quest world is the “What if?” it inspires. That and I want to understand how to regain my powers. It’s fun but it also takes me into a very serious, very possible future.

I live in Los Angeles where the oxygen is depleated. Even with yoga, deep breathing and additives like liquid oxygen, it is still hard to breath. Do you think the future will place us in an enviornment as bottled water did – how it evolved as a perchased resource in the 80s? Will we need to buy bottled oxygen to function and stay healthy? Just curious?
